Leadville remains open

The Willow Fire is burning approximately 6 miles west of Leadville. As of the most recent update (5,853 acres, 25% contained), the town of Leadville itself has not been evacuated and most businesses, restaurants, and attractions remain open to visitors. Smoke conditions can vary day to day. Some surrounding areas remain under evacuation or pre-evacuation orders — check the evacuation map before traveling to outlying areas.

Current Conditions

Destination: Leadville

Open. Most businesses operating normally; some downtown areas affected by smoke. Conditions can change — follow emergency instructions if issued.

Road Closures

Forest Road 110/Halfmoon Rd to Champion Campgrounds, Turquoise Lake Rd, Highway 300, County Roads 4, 5, 5A, 9, 11A, 48, and the 99 intersection

Recreation Closures

USFS Willow Fire area closure order (issued 7/3/2026) — high-elevation areas near the fire closed to entry

Flight Restriction

Active TFR over the fire area — no drones or aircraft

Smoke

Conditions change daily with shifting winds

Re-Entry ID Cards

Residents in evacuation/pre-evacuation zones need a re-entry ID card to return once zones reopen. Pick up at the Lake County Public Library (bring photo ID + proof of address). Questions: 719-427-0252.


Shelter Locations

Darren Patterson Christian Academy, 518 S. San Juan, Buena Vista — currently on stand-by status.
